Sweden international is currently training at his former club Real Sociedad instead of Newcastle’s own training centre
Newcastle United have turned down Liverpool’s first formal bid for Alexander Isak, with the offer falling significantly short of their £150m valuation of the striker.
The offer was £110m upfront, with add-ons included, although the total package did not even reach the £120m Liverpool had said last month that they were prepared to pay.
Newcastle have made it clear they have no intention of selling Isak unless their asking price is met. A fee of £150m for the Sweden international would significantly surpass the £116m agreement Liverpool reached with Bayer Leverkusen this summer for Florian Wirtz, as well as Chelsea £115m for Moises Caicedo at the top of the Premier League transfer record.
Isak has said that he is open to leaving Newcastle this summer. The player was ruled out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia officially due to a thigh injury. This week it was revealed he had travelled to Spain and is currently training at his former club Real Sociedad instead of Newcastle’s own training centre.
Liverpool’s bid comes only a week after Isak told Newcastle he wanted to explore his options in the window. The striker has not submitted a formal transfer request but this remains a possibility if Liverpool return with improved bids and Newcastle continue to refuse.
