Marseille has re-signed veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer after his one-year stint in Saudi Arabia.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back at Marseille after terminating his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, where he spent just one season.

The 36-year-old Gabon international striker joins Marseille for the second time, having played for the club in 2023 before moving to Al-Qadsiah in July 2024 on a two-year deal.

Aubameyang’s return to Marseille comes after a successful first stint with the club, where he scored 30 goals in all competitions in the 2023/24 season. This impressive performance made him the first Marseille player to reach that tally since Didier Drogba two decades ago.

Aubameyang is expected to replicate his excellent form for Roberto De Zerbi’s side and will likely compete with talented Algerian striker Amine Gouiri for the centre-forward role.

Aubameyang’s move to Al-Qadsiah last summer was seen as a lucrative opportunity, but he appears to have been drawn back to Marseille. He will sign a two-year contract with Les Minots, lasting until 2027. Al-Qadsiah bid farewell to Aubameyang, thanking him for his contributions to the team.

He has had a storied career, playing for top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona, and winning numerous titles, including the FA Cup and the DFB-Pokal.
