Italian club are pushing for either a long-term loan or a deal that would include an option to buy

Manchester City youngster Claudio Echeverri could leave the Etihad this summer, with Roma in advanced talks to bring the 19-year-old to Italy on loan.

City are yet to sign off on a final agreement, but discussions between the two clubs are progressing.

Roma are understood to be pushing for either a long-term loan or a deal that would include an option to buy.

Echeverri joined City from River Plate in January 2024 and has made just three senior appearances, but he now faces limited playing time after City made three senior midfield signings in that time.

He featured in City’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, coming on instead of Jack Grealish as the Sky Blues tried in vain to find a late equaliser at Wembley. After that, he also joined the club stateside for the Club World Cup played this summer.

He impressed in the United States, including scoring a stunning free-kick goal against Al Ain in the group stage. However, he sustained an injury in the same match and his time at the tournament came to an unfortunate early end.

Roma are now offering the player consistent football away from the Etihad. The Italian side hope to finalise the move before the end of the month, with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini keen to integrate new signings ahead of the club’s season opener in August.
