Newcastle United’s bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has been rejected, but the Magpies are expected to make an improved offer as talks between the clubs continue.

Newcastle United is stepping up its pursuit of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, with a new bid expected after the Magpies’ initial offer of £25m was rejected.

Wissa, who has one year left on his contract with a one-year option, has expressed his desire to explore a move to Newcastle. The 28-year-old striker is keen to play in the Champions League, and Newcastle’s interest has sparked direct talks between the clubs.

The Magpies’ interest in Wissa emerged after they missed out on signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Wissa’s impressive form last season, scoring 19 Premier League goals, has made him a target for several clubs. However, Brentford is reluctant to sell Wissa, having already let go of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £71m.

Brentford’s valuation of Wissa is reportedly around £30m, given his contract situation and impressive form. The Bees do not want to lose both their best forwards in the same window, which makes Wissa’s potential departure a challenging negotiation. Nottingham Forest had a bid of around £25m turned down for Wissa earlier in the transfer window.

Despite the rejection, Newcastle is expected to make an improved bid for Wissa. The Magpies are keen to strengthen their squad, and Wissa’s goal-scoring ability makes him an attractive target. Wissa has returned to the UK from Brentford’s pre-season training camp for talks with the club’s hierarchy over his future.

As talks between the clubs continue, Wissa’s future is set to be decided in the coming weeks. Newcastle’s determination to sign the striker will be put to the test as they navigate the complex negotiations with Brentford. With an improved bid expected, the next few days will be crucial in determining Wissa’s future.
