The Merseyside club won the Premier League in Slot’s debut season but have followed it up with remarkable ambition in the transfer window
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said the club’s new signings this summer must be ready to give everything, as the Premier League champions pursue further success under Arne Slot.
The Merseyside club won the title in Slot’s debut season but have followed it up with remarkable ambition in the transfer window.
Liverpool have spent close to £300m this summer, bringing in Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and then Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez.
They have also added depth to the goalkeeping department with the introduction of Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Begic and Freddie Woodman.
“For me, it’s very important to see how they settle into the group and fit into the squad that we have and I think all of them have,” Van Dijk told Anfield Wrap.
“But everyone has to work hard. We’re all in this together and that’s the main thing.”
The latest arrival is French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, who was signed for a fee that could rise to £79m.
Van Dijk said: “He’s just flown in, but we’ll probably have to fine him for wearing the wrong kit!
“No, it’s good to have him here. Now he has to work his socks off and be important for us and that’s enough.”
Asked whether he believed there could be further movement before the window closes, the Liverpool captain said: “Let’s see what happens. I think we’ve made some great additions so far, and I think they will definitely have the quality to play for Liverpool.”
