Toons manager Eddie Howe “confident” Isak will be a Newcastle player at the end of the window

Al-Hilal have made initial enquiries about the prospect of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer.

The Saudi Pro League champions gathered information on the Sweden international’s contract terms and valuation, although they are yet to make a formal offer.

Head coach Simone Inzaghi is understood to be an admirer of Isak and has discussed the player internally with Al-Hilal’s sporting hierarchy.

However, the club’s officials acknowledge that luring the 25-year-old away from European football would be a difficult task at this stage.

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record fee and has become one of the Premier League’s most effective forwards, scoring 23 league goals last season.

Still yet to reach his peak and undoubtedly eager to win the biggest prizes in football and represent Sweden at the international stage, it is highly unlikely that the striker would be tempted into moving to Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle have also shown no intention of selling. They have rebuffed an informal £120m offer from Liverpool. Manager Eddie Howe understands that nothing is ever guaranteed but has also assured fans the club would do their best to keep Isak on Tyneside.

Howe said: “I’m confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window.

“It’s difficult for me to give 100 per cent clarity on any player. Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, and the team. I’m confident he’ll be here at the start of the season.”
