German professional football sets new attendance record with 20,983,964 tickets sold in the 2024/25 season, averaging 34,288 fans per match.

The 2024/25 season has been a remarkable one for German professional football, with attendance figures shattering records across the board. 

A total of 20,983,964 tickets were sold by the 36 professional clubs, marking the highest ever recorded in the country’s top two divisions. This translates to an average of 34,288 tickets sold per match, a staggering figure that showcases the enduring popularity of the sport in Germany.

The Bundesliga, in particular, has been a hotbed of activity, with 11,653,239 tickets sold and an average attendance of 38,082 per game.

While the total ticket sales were slightly down from the previous season, the average stadium occupancy rate rose to an impressive 95.91%. Fifteen of the league’s 18 clubs filled over 90% of their stadiums on average, demonstrating the strong fan support that defines German football.

When compared to other major European leagues, the Bundesliga stands out as a leader in attendance figures. The league’s average attendance of 38,082 per game surpasses both Serie A (30,811) and La Liga (29,987), underscoring the unique atmosphere and fan culture that exists in Germany.

Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern Munich, and VfB Stuttgart were among the top teams in terms of attendance, with Signal Iduna Park and Allianz Arena consistently hosting large crowds.

The 2. Bundesliga also set a new benchmark, with total ticket sales reaching 9,330,725 and an average attendance of 30,493 per game.

This marks a significant increase from the previous season and highlights the growing popularity of the second tier. FC Schalke 04, Hamburger SV, and Hertha BSC led the division in attendance, drawing large crowds to their matches.
