A new round of inspections is expected in the coming days, which will determine whether the opening fixture on 10 August can go ahead
Barcelona are facing a delay in their expected return to the Camp Nou due to unresolved licensing issues with local authorities.
The club had planned to play at the venue on 10 August against Como, which would have marked their first match at their traditional home ground in over two years. But that is now uncertain.
The Camp Nou has been undergoing extensive renovations for two seasons and is now nearing completion. However, Barcelona have yet to secure all the necessary permits from the city council to play a match at the redeveloped site, as reported by ESPN.
Some approvals have already been granted but there are still concerns about access and safety infrastructure around the ground.
There will be a round of inspections in the coming days, which will determine whether the fixture on 10 August can go ahead at the Camp Nou.
After playing their home matches at the Estadi Olympic Lluis Companys at Montjuic for the last two years, Barcelona are planning a return to their traditional home ground this season. But the return is expected to be in phases.
The club have already secured an agreement with La Liga to play their first three league games this season away. The fourth game, against Valencia in early September, is expected to be played at the Camp Nou.
But that will be at a reduced capacity of 50,000 – 60,000 while work continues on sections of the stadium. The stadium is not expected to be fully completed until at least the 2026-2027 season.
Announcing their return to the Camp Nou, the club had said: “After more than two years of major renovations and a temporary relocation to the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, Barcelona will once again feel the thrill of football in its legendary temple.
“With this return, FC Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium.”
