Enzo Maresca provides an update on Moises Caicedo’s injury, expressing hope that the midfielder will be fit for Chelsea’s Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is optimistic about Moises Caicedo’s fitness for the Club World Cup final after the midfielder suffered an ankle injury in the semi-final win over Fluminense.
Caicedo was forced off in injury time after making a tackle and receiving treatment on the pitch. Despite attempting to play on, he eventually hobbled off, leaving Chelsea to finish the game with 10 men.
Maresca has instructed Caicedo to do everything possible to be available for selection in the final. “I told him that he has to do everything to be on the pitch on Sunday, so we will see,” Maresca said. The Blues will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid in the final, scheduled for July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The injury scare came after a successful semi-final performance, where summer signing Joao Pedro scored two stunning goals to secure Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fluminense. Maresca praised João Pedro’s debut, highlighting his quality and adaptability.
Despite the injury concern, Maresca reflected on what he feels has been a great season for Chelsea.
The team has secured a top-four finish in the Premier League, won the Conference League, and reached the Club World Cup final. “It is a great achievement. It has been a fantastic season; top four in the Premier League, Conference League, and now in the final of this competition – we are so, so happy,” Maresca added.
