Bayer Leverkusen has signed defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool in a £35m deal. The 22-year-old centre-back has joined the German Bundesliga club on a five-year contract. Quansah was part of the England side that won the European Under-21 Championship, impressing in the tournament.
Quansah’s opportunities at Liverpool were limited last season, starting four Premier League games and 13 in all competitions. Despite signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool in October, the club has now sold him to Leverkusen. The deal includes a guaranteed £30m plus £5m in add-ons and a pre-agreed buy-back clause.
This transfer marks the third deal between Liverpool and Leverkusen this summer, following the Premier League champions’ acquisition of Jeremie Frimpong and record-signing Florian Wirtz. Despite selling Quansah, Liverpool considers him a player of rich potential and may look to buy him back in the future.
