There are so many talented left-backs in the Premier League right now, and some of them give their team a bigger advantage than others. This is our top 5 left-backs in the Premier League based purely on their performances this season.

Recently in the Premier League, we’ve seen left-backs affect the game by becoming inverted midfielders, bombing up and down the wing, or even sliding into good positions in the box to get a goal or two.

Left-backs are now required to do more than their primary duty, which is to defend. They are now relied on for attacking output and helping their team pad the numbers in the box. Some players have taken on this role a lot better than a few others, and here is our top 5.

Milos Kerkez

The Bournemouth defender has been a revelation this season. This may be his best season so far in the Premier League. He has been electric up and down the wing, contributing to Bournemouth’s attacking prowess while holding down his flank against some of the best wingers in the league.

Kerkez has provided 2 goals and 5 assists for Bournemouth this season, and his performances this season has attracted interest from clubs. There are reports that he may move away from Bournemouth, with Liverpool looking very likely to complete a move for the defender.

Myles Lewis-Skelly

As a young defender who still has a lot to learn, Lewis-Skelly has been impressive this season. A few fans (myself included) have a few reservations about his performances, but it’s very easy to see that he is a star in the making. His breakthrough season in the Arsenal squad has gotten him the recognition he deserves.

He is very comfortable on the ball and isn’t scared to square up against outstanding wingers. Arsenal got Calafiori for this position, but since the Italian has refused to stay injury-free, Lewis-Skelly has stood up and manned that position with absolute guile and composure.

Antonee Robinson

Some fans see him as the best left-back in the Premier League, but I think he’s the third best. Robinson has been a standout player for Fulham this season.

He has provided 7 assists across all the games he’s played, and his work rate cannot be overlooked. Hard to dribble past, and we can’t take away the fact that he reminds you of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Robinson has been a tough competition for many wingers, and the faithful at Craven Cottage know that he’s a brilliant player.

Josko Gvardiol

In a season where Manchester City’s lights have been dimmed, Gvardiol has been a glimmer of hope. He has had a decent season despite all of City’s woes.

He adds a different level of composure to the backline and remains a potent attacking threat when City are on the attack. He also scores when he ventures into the box, giving City that extra edge to blow the opposition away.

He ended the season with five goals in the league, just showing that he is as good offensively as some of the league’s forwards.

Marc Cucurella

Cucurella has been the best left-back in the Premier League this season. He has sealed his left flank, making it difficult for wingers to get a sniff at goal.

Some of the best wingers in the league say he’s the toughest defender to face in the Premier League, and the stats confirm it as he’s only been dribbled once this season.

For Chelsea this season, he’s been one of their best players, scoring 7 goals and single-handedly rescuing 6 points for the Blues.
