Liverpool are not expected to stand in the way if the right offer comes in, making a swift Serie A comeback for Chiesa likely
Federico Chiesa could end his time at Liverpool after just one season, with the Italian winger reportedly eager for a move back to Serie A this summer.
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus last summer for £12.5 million in a move that looked like a bargain for the Reds. However, the 27-year-old has struggled with injuries and form, appearing for just 466 minutes across all competitions for the club. His most notable contribution was a stoppage time consolation in the League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.
While there is “a great feeling” between Chiesa and Liverpool, the Italian does not think he can get enough playing time under Arne Slot ahead of the 2026 World Cup, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mohamed Salah is staying at Anfield after signing a contract extension until 2027 and Luis Diaz will not be joining Barcelona. Liverpool are also pushing hard to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. All of which means that Chiesa’s path to first-team football looks even more uncertain.
Liverpool are not expected to stand in the Italy international’s way if the right offer comes in, making a swift Serie A comeback for him increasingly likely.
Transfer expert Romano said: “Federico Chiesa wants to play more. He doesn’t want to spend another season basically 90 per cent of the time on the bench.
“My understanding is that there is a concrete possibility for Chiesa to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window. He is assessing all of his options.”
