Diaz is contracted to Liverpool until 2027; Barcelona have made their interest known but been told he is not for sale

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is in talks with other clubs to try and evaluate the available options for the player.

Diaz’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks as Liverpool prepare to reshuffle their squad going into the defence of their title under Arne Slot next season. Speaking to Colombian media this week while on international duty, the player admitted that his representatives have been speaking to other clubs.

“Right now we’re in contact with them because we’re speaking to other clubs,” said Diaz. “It’s normal, the market is open and we’re trying to sort out what’s best for us.”

Barcelona have already approached the club regarding the player, with the Catalan club’s sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta keen on him. However, Liverpool made it crystal clear that they are not willing to sell Diaz.

The Colombia international has two years left on his contract and Liverpool are interested in keeping him for at least that duration. A contract extension is possible, but there has reportedly been no progress in talks regarding that.

It is understood that if the 28-year-old refuses to extend his contract, Liverpool are still willing to keep him, even if it means that he leaves as a free agent in the summer of 2027.

“I’m just waiting to see what happens,” said Diaz regarding his contract situation. “If Liverpool don’t make a good offer, I still have two years left with them. I would be happy and content to stay there.

“And that’s it, everything depends on them obviously. It’s up to me to decide what’s best for me and the future.”

Speaking about how he feels at the club, Diaz said: “I’m very very happy at Liverpool. From day one they’ve made me feel really welcome.”
