Garnacho’s representatives were spotted at Chelsea matches earlier this season
Alejandro Garnacho is pushing for a move to Chelsea after being told he is no longer part of Manchester United’s long-term plans under head coach Ruben Amorim.
The 20-year-old winger, who signed a contract extension last year keeping him at Old Trafford until 2028, is now understood to be preparing for a summer departure.
Garnacho was linked with a switch to Serie A in January, with Napoli making their interest clear. The Serie A side, who signed Manchester United’s Scott McTominay last summer and he helped them to the title this year, are interested in pulling off another major coup with the signing of Garnacho.
However, the Argentine prefers to remain in the Premier League and is particularly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun.
Garnacho’s representatives were spotted at Chelsea matches earlier this season, and the west London club have since emerged alongside Napoli as a serious destination. The youngster is believed to be valued at around £50 million, though it remains unclear whether Chelsea, who would be careful about navigating financial fair play constraints, will meet that valuation.
Garnacho’s relationship with United has deteriorated in recent months. After United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, their final opportunity to salvage a dismal season, Garnacho took to social media to call the club’s year “sh*t”, a post that was said to annoy club chiefs and the coaching staff.
Ruben Amorim has also made it clear to Garnacho that he is not part of his plans as he looks to overhaul a squad that finished in the bottom half far away from the Champions League places and failed to win a trophy.
A deal for Garnacho is not yet imminent, but with the transfer window open and his position at the club increasingly untenable, movement is expected in the coming weeks.
