Chelsea has begun talks with Manchester United about keeping Jadon Sancho.
Chelsea would like Jadon Sancho to stay with the club, but the Blues are facing a challenge in agreeing on contract terms that fit their wage structure.
Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United last August, and the club now has a £25 million obligation to buy the talented winger. However, Chelsea can opt out of this deal by paying a £5 million penalty.
The Blues are currently in talks with Sancho’s representatives to discuss new contract terms that would fit in with the club’s wage structure.
Chelsea’s policy is to sign players on long, incentivized contracts with lower base wages, which might not align with Sancho’s current lucrative deal at Manchester United. Sancho’s United contract, which has a year left to run with the option of a further year, is believed to be worth up to £300,000 a week.
Sancho has been impressive for Chelsea this season, scoring five goals and setting up 10 across all competitions. He came off the bench to score in the Conference League final against Real Betis, netting the 83rd-minute strike to make it 3-1. Despite Chelsea’s desire to keep Sancho, there’s a chance he might return to Manchester United if contract terms can’t be agreed upon.
The decision on Sancho’s future will likely depend on whether Chelsea can find a way to fit him into their wage structure without breaking the bank.
Sancho’s impressive form this season has certainly made a strong case for him to stay with the Blues, but ultimately, it will be up to both parties to find a mutually beneficial agreement. Manchester United signed Sancho for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, and it’s clear that the player has struggled to replicate his form from his Dortmund days and early days at United.
