Real Betis take on Chelsea in the 2025 Uefa Conference league final. Here is all you need to know about the match, preview, stats, venue, time and where to watch
The stage is set, all actors are ready as Real Betis take on Chelsea in the final match of the 2025 Uefa Conference league with both teams hoping to end the season with a trophy.
The 2024- 2025 Uefa conference league has witnessed different drama and all road has led to this final game taking place at the 42, 771-seater Tarczyński Arena Wrocław, popularly called the Wroclaw stadium in Poland.
The Conference League, which is in its fourth season, offers historic opportunities for both teams. For Betis, it is their first European final in the 117 years since the club was founded and they would be looking to stamp their name on European history.
The Manuel Pellegrini-led Spanish side have come a long way since the infamous 2008-09 season when an 18th place finish saw them relegated to the lower division of La Liga. Although the team gained promotion back to Spanish top-tier division in 2011, it was until the 2017-18 that the Los Verdiblancos
Heliopolitanos were able to break back into European competition with an appearance in the Uefa Europa league.
The team has witnessed consistent development under Pellegrini since the Chilean was appointed in 2020 and can count on key players to come through for them on the biggest stage like tonight’s
Chelsea, on the other hand, are no strangers to European success. Enzo Maresca’s side have enjoyed Europe’s top trophies in recent times including the Uefa Champions league, Europa league but victory tonight would add some spice of history to football in general and the Blues, in particular – this would complete the set of five UEFA trophies for Chelsea – something that has previously not be done by any other club in football history.
Road To the Final
Chelsea topped their group with a perfect record and have won 11 of their 12 Conference League games this season, while Betis have won only half of their 14.
While this is Real Betis’ first European final, they can count on experienced legs like former Real Madrid man and Uefa champions league winner, 33-year-old creative midfielder Isco, 34-year-old striker Cédric Bakambu and Manuel Pellegrini, who won the Premier League title as Manchester City boss in 2013/14 and was later in charge of West Ham (when Chelsea boss Maresca was his assistant).
Betis can also count on midfielder Pablo Fornals won the competition with West Ham in 2022/23 season
Speaking ahead of the final, Pellegrini said, “We are enjoying ourselves preparing for the match. It is a reward for all the work we have done this season. This is Betis’ first European final, but we have a lot of confidence that we will give our fans something to celebrate.
“We don’t think we are David against Goliath. We think we have the same possibility to win the game and will start from the first minute to try to do it – it doesn’t matter the budget of one team or the other. We have players with a lot of experience, and we will be absolutely convinced from the first minute we are going to try to win the game. To win, we need to be the same team we have been so far. We have to be able to manage the emotional side, because a big mistake could change the match.”
Chelsea, on the other hand, have also been able to manage crisis in the club especially with the recent change of ownership and a disappointing season that followed. The Blues have been able to steady the ship under current boss, boss Maresca, who started his coaching journey looking after youth teams under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and he follows similar philosophy as his former boss.
Maresca reiterated just how important the match is to his team and what winning it would do to the London side.
“The Conference League is important; it has been important because this is the competition we are in. If we are able to win, it is a good thing because we continue to build the winning mentality, and you cannot build a winning mentality if you do not win games”, he said.
The Blues have plenty of exciting young talent and have been able to count on stars like left-back Marc Cucurella, midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku during key moments in the tournament this season.
Irfan Peljto from Bosnia and Herzegovina would be the referee for the final.
