Mbappe’s first season at Real Madrid has come with both positive and negative remarks. There’s also the question about him having a good season, and for someone who started with a lot of criticisms, he has turned out alright.
When Mbappe arrived at Real Madrid, he was the final piece of the new Galactico puzzle. A team that had Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., Camavinga and Valverde already seemed unstoppable. They had already won the league, Super Cup and the Champions League as well. Adding Mbappe felt like adding the final stone to Thanos’ infinity gauntlet. Madrid were set to be more threatening than ever.
But that’s not what happened.
After winning the Super Cup in his first appearance for the club and even scoring as well, Mbappe and Real Madrid didn’t kick off as many expected.
For Madrid, it was clear that they hadn’t found a balance for their frontline, with Mbappe almost always drifting to the left side during matches, leaving the middle open most times.
Life at Madrid didn’t start out great for the French forward, especially after crucial penalty misses in both the La Liga and UCL, but if there’s anything we know about Mbappe, it’s that he’s a fighter.
The Real Madrid forward made a post towards the middle of the season saying it’s time for him to dig deeper and perform at the level he is known for, and he did just that. He scored in 9 consecutive games in December and racked up a good number of goals to jump into the race for the Pichichi award.
He was crucial in Real Madrid’s demolition of Manchester City in the UCL, and despite Barca’s dominance in the El Clásico, he also got a hat-trick. He has officially broken the record for most goals by a Real Madrid player in their debut season by scoring 40 goals across all competitions, and he is in the lead for the Pichichi award. He needs one goal in his final game to claim the European Golden Boot.
A season that started so unsure for the French star has turned out very well for him. It’s pretty sad for him to miss out on the La Liga and UCL which he has been chasing for a while but this season is a one for the books. He could also finish in the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or rankings, showing that he has had an impressive season and if Madrid can find their balance next season, Mbappe can pull more numbers than this.
