Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for Barcelona as Hansi Flick’s side maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Getafe at the Camp Nou.

The England winger struck inside two minutes before Gabriel Jesus doubled the hosts’ advantage and Jules Kounde completed the scoring in the second half. Barcelona have now won all eight of their league matches, moving five points clear of Atletico Madrid and opening a nine-point gap over fourth-placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.

Gordon’s early goal helped Barcelona settle quickly despite the absence of Raphinha, their leading scorer, who sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Brazil. Flick responded by bringing Jesus into the starting line-up, and the champions immediately put Getafe under pressure.

The breakthrough came after Gordon drove into the penalty area, worked his way past three defenders and sent a low shot towards goal. The effort took a deflection before beating David Soria, giving Barcelona the lead inside 80 seconds.

Gordon had arrived at the club during the summer and has made an encouraging start to his Barcelona career. His performances for England during the international break had also underlined his growing confidence, and he remained one of the hosts’ most dangerous players during the opening half.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession and create opportunities. Eric Garcia tested Soria with a powerful effort from distance as Getafe struggled to contain the home side’s movement.

The visitors’ resistance weakened further in the 30th minute when Zaid Romero lost possession inside his own penalty area. His attempted pass went straight to Jesus, who took advantage of the mistake by calmly guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

The second goal gave Barcelona greater control of the contest, although Soria prevented the deficit from increasing before the interval by saving an effort from Dani Olmo.

Getafe needed a response after the break but found it difficult to disrupt Barcelona’s control. Flick’s side continued to move the ball patiently, and soon Lamine Yamal delivered a cross into the penalty area, allowing Kounde to finish from close range and put the result beyond doubt.
