Liverpool will host Tottenham in the standout EFL Cup third-round tie, while Arsenal and Manchester United face fellow Premier League teams.
The Carabao Cup third-round draw has delivered a blockbuster as Liverpool were paired with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield setting up one of the most intriguing ties of the round.
Tottenham booked their place in the last 32 in emphatic fashion on Wednesday night, thrashing Charlton Athletic 5-1 just three days after their humiliating 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brentford. Roberto De Zerbi’s side will now have to travel to Anfield in September for a much tougher test against Liverpool, with both clubs looking to make a deep run in the competition.
Meanwhile, Premier League champions Arsenal will begin their EFL Cup campaign with an away trip to Ipswich Town.
Mikel Arteta’s side are attempting to defend their league title this season, but the Carabao Cup offers another route to silverware as Arsenal look to build on last season’s success. Ipswich, meanwhile, will relish the opportunity to welcome the champions and will hope home advantage can help them produce one of the round’s biggest upsets.
Manchester City, the reigning holders, have been handed a home tie against Norwich City, while Manchester United will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford.
