Juventus are making major progress in their pursuit of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with a loan deal including an option to buy now being discussed.

Juventus have made significant progress in their pursuit of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Serie A giants increasingly confident that a deal can be reached this summer.

The Bianconeri have been monitoring Vicario throughout the transfer window and have known for some time that the Italian goalkeeper would be open to a return to Serie A. The main obstacle has been persuading Tottenham to agree to terms that work financially for Juventus.

A loan arrangement has always been Juventus’ preferred route, with the club unable to commit to a major permanent transfer at this stage. Their ideal formula would include an option to buy, allowing them to assess Vicario before potentially making him their long-term No.1.

The developments come as Juventus appear to be stepping back from their pursuit of Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine goalkeeper had emerged as their first choice, but negotiations with Aston Villa have failed to progress sufficiently, with Juve now pulling back from a reported €10 million offer.

That has opened the door for Vicario to become the leading candidate for the goalkeeping position in Turin. Discussions over the proposed loan continued on Sunday, with Juventus hopeful that the structure of the deal can be finalised.

Vicario was even present in the stands as Tottenham defeated Hoffenheim 3-0 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. With Antonin Kinsky currently expected to take over as Spurs’ first-choice goalkeeper, Vicario’s potential departure would make sense from Tottenham’s perspective if suitable terms can be agreed.

Tottenham also have their own transfer business to resolve this week, with moves for Savinho and Cody Gakpo reportedly being worked on. As Juventus continue to push for Vicario, the coming days could determine whether the Italian goalkeeper finally gets the chance to return home and become Juventus’ next long-term No.1.
