Liverpool’s Search for a Winger Is Getting Weirder

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Ibrahim Mbaye.

The club have pursued Bradley Barcola all summer and he remains their priority target, but they also admire his teammate Mbaye, who is 18-years-old and made his breakthrough at PSG from their academy, under Luis Enrique.

According to sources, they have also followed up on their interest and made inquiries about the winger. He is believed to be open to a move to Anfield and PSG are understood to be willing to sell for around €50m.

It is a strange move given Mbaye’s teammate Barcola has proved too difficult to sign so far. But on the other hand, perhaps it is a reasonable one given that Mbaye has far fewer first-team opportunities in Paris and also plays primarily on the right, the position Liverpool are looking to strengthen after Mohamed Salah’s departure this summer.

Sources close to the situation insist, however, that the two deals are separate. Liverpool’s interest in Mbaye is not viewed as an alternative to Barcola, nor would an agreement for one player automatically rule out a move for the other. The club continue to monitor Barcola despite PSG’s high valuation, while Mbaye is being assessed on his own merits.
