Como are closing in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund right-back Yan Couto on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, according to reports from Italy and Germany.

Como are edging closer to completing the signing of Borussia Dortmund full-back Yan Couto after making a breakthrough in negotiations with the Bundesliga club.

The Brazilian defender had been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A outfit earlier in the transfer window, although reports in recent days suggested Como had cooled their interest and begun exploring alternative targets.

However, fresh updates indicate the situation has changed dramatically. Como have accelerated talks with Borussia Dortmund and are now close to reaching an agreement for the 23-year-old.

The proposed deal is expected to be an initial loan with an option to buy. Reports claim that the purchase clause could be worth around €20 million if Como decide to make the transfer permanent.

Couto remains under contract with Dortmund until 2030 after joining the German club from Manchester City in a deal worth approximately €25 million. As a result, Dortmund have been keen to secure a transfer fee that would allow them to recover much of their original investment.

A permanent sale this summer had always been Dortmund’s preferred outcome, but the loan structure with an option to buy appears to have emerged as a compromise that suits both clubs.

Reports that Como have been in direct contact with Dortmund over the past few hours, with negotiations progressing quickly after a period in which the Italian side had appeared ready to abandon their pursuit.

Should the deal be completed, Couto would become another ambitious addition for Como as they continue strengthening their squad following last season’s impressive fourth-place finish in Serie A, with the club looking to build a team capable of competing both domestically and in Europe.
