Ruben Amorim is set to become AC Milan manager after leaving Manchester United having agreed a two-year deal with the Serie A giants.
Ruben Amorim is reportedly set for a swift return to management after reaching an agreement to become the new head coach of AC Milan, just months after his departure from Manchester United. The Portuguese tactician, who left Old Trafford in January, is now expected to take charge of the Rossoneri ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The 41-year-old has agreed an initial two-year deal that will keep him at the San Siro until 2028, with an option for a further year included in the contract. According to reports in Portugal, the agreement is now in place as AC Milan move to finalise their managerial transition from Massimiliano Allegri.

Amorim will reportedly earn around €3.5 million per season, with performance-related bonuses tied to silverware and Champions League qualification. AC Milan have missed out on Europe’s top competition in each of the last two seasons, making a return to elite status a key target in his mandate.
Although the core negotiations have been completed, the deal is still awaiting final approval from Gerry Cardinale, the owner of RedBird Capital. Once that formal step is cleared, Amorim is expected to travel to Milan immediately to sign and begin planning for the new campaign.
AC Milan had considered other managerial profiles, including Matthias Jaissle, but Amorim’s availability as a free agent made him the preferred option. The club were also keen to avoid triggering a costly release clause, which would have been required for alternative targets still under contract elsewhere.
His rapid return to management also carries financial implications for Manchester United. The Premier League club were still due to pay a significant compensation package following his dismissal, which included severance for Amorim and his backroom staff.
By taking up a new role so quickly, Amorim is expected to waive a large portion of those ongoing payments, easing the financial burden on United.
Now, Amorim moves from rebuilding plans at Old Trafford to a fresh challenge in Italy, where AC Milan will hope his tactical identity and recent top-level experience can restore them as genuine contenders in both Serie A and Europe.
