Brazilian is leaving Manchester United for a Major League Soccer move this summer
Inter Miami are the expected destination for Brazil midfielder Casemiro. The player has made his decision to play for the Major League Soccer side following his departure from Manchester United.
Casemiro had a send-off ceremony at United last weekend when the club played their final home game against Nottingham Forest. He is not expected to feature anymore for the club and will miss their last league game against Brighton at the Amex.
The Brazilian has also indicated that he wants to continue his career in Miami when his contract expires this summer, according to The Athletic. The 34-year-old would arrive as a free agent during MLS’s secondary transfer window.
However, there are a few complications to the move that will need to be resolved over the next two months. According to MLS regulations, clubs can claim discovery rights over a player, giving them priority to negotiate with the player for a move.
This rule was introduced to prevent MLS clubs being pitted against each other in competition for a player. LA Galaxy currently hold Casemiro’s discovery rights. The club had previously held talks with the midfielder and submitted contract offers in an effort to bring him to Los Angeles.
Any Casemiro move to Miami will require negotiations between LA Galaxy and Inter to resolve the discovery rights issue, most likely through compensation.
Casemiro leaves United after a strong final campaign in which he scored nine goals and helped the club secure Champions League qualification.
The former Real Madrid midfielder has won five Champions League titles and has earned 84 caps for Brazil. He was also included in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup.
