Arsenal defeated Burnley 1-0 thanks to Kai Havertz’s header as Mikel Arteta’s side moved closer to winning their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arsenal took another huge step towards ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title after grinding out a narrow 1-0 victory over already-relegated Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
With the pressure firmly on ahead of Manchester City’s next match, Mikel Arteta’s side knew victory was essential, and the Gunners patiently controlled large periods of the contest in search of a breakthrough. Leandro Trossard came closest to opening the scoring early on when he created space brilliantly before smashing a low effort against the near post from outside the area.
Burnley threatened occasionally themselves with Hannibal and Anthony having shots at goal but they did little to threaten Raya.
Arsenal finally found the breakthrough from a set piece, continuing their remarkable efficiency from corners this season. Kai Havertz rose highest inside the six-yard box to head home Arsenal’s record-breaking 18th goal from a corner in the league campaign, while Saka registered his 50th Premier League assist.
The hosts pushed for a second goal after halftime as they looked to improve their goal difference in the title race, but Burnley continued to fight and nearly equalised when Eze’s deflected effort looped onto the top of the crossbar. Havertz later survived a possible red card after a strong challenge on Lesley Ugochukwu, while Trossard came close once more with a curling effort that drifted narrowly wide as Arsenal searched for breathing space late on.

In the end, Arsenal were content to settle for another crucial 1-0 victory, their third in a row, leaving Manchester City under pressure ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Bournemouth. For Burnley, meanwhile, defeat means they must beat Wolves in their final game to avoid recording the club’s lowest-ever number of top-flight league wins in a season.
