Bayern Munich have confirmed Manuel Neuer has suffered a calf injury just days before the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart.

Bayern Munich have confirmed that captain Manuel Neuer has suffered a calf injury, leaving his availability for the upcoming DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart in serious doubt.

The club stated that the 40-year-old will “have to take it easy for the time being” after experiencing muscular problems in his left calf, with further assessment expected in the coming days.

The injury was discovered following a detailed medical examination conducted by Bayern’s medical team on Sunday afternoon, 17 May, shortly after the player reported discomfort. Neuer picked up the issue during Bayern’s emphatic 5-1 Bundesliga win over Köln, where he was forced to leave the pitch in the 60th minute as a precaution.

Despite the setback, the veteran goalkeeper remained with his teammates to celebrate Bayern’s league title success, though concerns quickly emerged over the seriousness of the injury.

With Bayern just six days away from their DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart, it remains unclear whether Neuer will recover in time to feature in the high-stakes fixture.

The situation also raises wider questions about his immediate future, as Neuer had been included in Julian Nagelsmann’s provisional 55-man squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup despite having retired from international football. While speculation has even suggested a possible return for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Bayern will now focus primarily on ensuring their captain recovers fully before making any further decisions.
