Chelsea interim boss Calum McFarlane praised his side’s performance after their hard-fought draw with Liverpool, claiming the Blues deserved all three points at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane praised his side’s performance after their entertaining draw against Liverpool, insisting the Blues deserved more from the contest.

Chelsea fell behind early in the match when Ryan Gravenberch produced a superb strike to hand Liverpool the advantage and silence Stamford Bridge in the opening stages. Despite the setback, Chelsea responded impressively and gradually took control of large spells of the game with an energetic attacking display against Liverpool’s defence.

The equaliser arrived in the 35th minute when Enzo Fernández stepped up to convert from a free-kick, bringing the hosts level after sustained pressure.

Chelsea continued to threaten after the break and believed they had completed the comeback when Cole Palmer found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out after a VAR review for offside.

Speaking after the match, McFarlane admitted he was pleased with the overall display and felt the result could easily have gone in Chelsea’s favour based on the chances created. The interim coach highlighted opportunities involving Fernández and Marc Cucurella, while also expressing frustration over what he believed was a clear penalty decision that went against his side.

McFarlane said Chelsea’s performance showed encouraging signs despite their difficult recent form, insisting the Blues produced enough quality and intensity to feel unfortunate not to leave with all three points.
