Cristian Chivu hails Inter Milan’s mentality and second-half performance after their emphatic 5-2 victory over Roma.
Cristian Chivu praised Inter Milan for their mentality after a commanding 5-2 victory over Roma, highlighting the team’s determination to dominate after the break.
Inter had entered the international window on a disappointing run, but they responded in style. Lautaro Martínez marked his return from injury with two goals, while Hakan Çalhanoğlu struck from long range, and both Marcus Thuram and Nicolò Barella added to the tally.
Chivu expressed his satisfaction with the contributions across the squad, also singling out strong performances from Denzel Dumfries and other players who featured or supported from the bench.
The coach identified Inter’s third goal early in the second half as the turning point, noting that it reflected the instructions delivered during halftime to increase intensity and push for more goals.
According to Chivu, the team showed maturity by avoiding the cautious approach that had cost them in recent matches. He emphasised that Inter returned with the right mindset, aiming to control possession and finish the game decisively.

Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini acknowledged his side’s strong first-half display, but Chivu explained that Inter adapted by pressing more aggressively and moving the ball quicker after the break.
He added that allowing Roma time on the ball was dangerous, especially given their ability to exploit wide areas, but Inter’s increased tempo and courage helped them break lines and dominate the second period.
Chivu also addressed the emotional moment when Alessandro Bastoni received a standing ovation at San Siro. The Inter boss called for a more positive football culture, stressing that players, coaches, media, and fans all share responsibility in reducing negativity and protecting the spirit of the game.
