Luka Modrić is set to become a minority owner of Swansea City, marking his first foray into football club ownership, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

The 39-year-old Croatian has agreed to invest in the Welsh Championship side, joining existing shareholders Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris, and Jason Cohen.

While the financial specifics remain undisclosed, reports confirm that this move will not interfere with Modrić’s playing career, as he continues to compete at the highest level with Real Madrid and aspires to participate in the 2026 World Cup with Croatia.

Swansea City, currently 12th in the Championship, has experienced significant changes in recent years. The club, which enjoyed a Premier League stint from 2011 to 2018 and won the League Cup in 2013, underwent an ownership transition in November when Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan sold their majority stake.

New majority owner Andy Coleman has expressed ambitions to return the club to the Premier League and promote financial sustainability.

Modrić’s investment aligns with a growing trend of active footballers acquiring stakes in clubs.

Notable examples include Kylian Mbappé, who owns a significant share of SM Caen in France’s Ligue 2, and Vinícius Júnior, who holds a substantial stake in Portuguese side FC Alverca. Other footballers-turned-owners include David Beckham (Inter Miami and Salford City), N’Golo Kanté (Royal Excelsior Virton), and Gerard Piqué (FC Andorra).

Modrić’s decision to invest in Swansea City shows his commitment to the sport beyond his playing days. While he remains focused on his current responsibilities with Real Madrid, this strategic move positions him for a seamless transition into football management or executive roles in the future.

As Swansea City continues its campaign in the Championship, the addition of Modrić to its ownership group brings renewed attention and potential strategic insights to the club’s operations.
