Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping dilemma continues as Urbig is still a doubt to face Atalanta despite being seen in training.

Bayern Munich’s preparations for Wednesday’s Champions League second leg against Atalanta have been clouded by a mounting injury crisis in goal

Jonas Urbig, the 22-year-old tasked with filling Manuel Neuer’s boots, returned to individual training on Monday at Säbener Straße. However, despite the optimistic sight of him back on the grass, his availability for the clash at the Allianz Arena remains a doubt.

The young goalkeeper suffered a concussion during Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 first-leg victory in Bergamo last week. While medical tests following Monday’s session showed positive results, reports suggest Urbig is not yet symptom-free.

Sources indicate he experienced persistent discomfort, specifically when landing after jumps, which is a critical red flag for a player in a position that demands high-impact athleticism.

The path back to the pitch is strictly governed by UEFA’s rigorous concussion protocols. To be cleared for Wednesday’s fixture, Urbig must complete a full, symptom-free team training session on Tuesday. Additionally, he requires the green light from both the Bayern medical staff and an independent neurological consultant.

With the final training session looming, the club is effectively in a race against time to see if their last standing senior keeper can pass the test.

Should Urbig fail to meet the recovery milestones, Vincent Kompany may be forced to make a historic decision. With Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, and Leon Klanac all currently sidelined by various injuries, 16-year-old academy talent Leonard Prescott is the next man in line.

The New York-born teenager has impressed coaches with his composure, but thrusting him into a Champions League knockout match would be an extraordinary baptism by fire.

Despite Bayern’s commanding five-goal aggregate lead, the prospect of starting an untested 16-year-old underscores the severity of their current predicament. Fans and analysts alike are now watching the training ground with bated breath for any sign of Urbig’s full recovery.
