Canada head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed Alphonso Davies will miss the upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia after suffering a hamstring injury with Bayern Munich.

Alphonso Davies has been ruled out of Canada men’s national soccer team’s upcoming international friendlies after suffering an injury while playing for Bayern Munich.

Head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that the 25-year-old defender will miss the matches against Iceland men’s national football team and Tunisia national football team as he continues his recovery.

Davies picked up a hamstring strain during Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League earlier this week. The Canadian international was forced to leave the field in visible discomfort during the match.

The injury comes shortly after Davies had returned to action following a long spell on the sidelines. He only resumed playing in December after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in March 2025.

Canada will face Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on April 1 as part of their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, United States and Mexico.

Marsch explained that the medical team expects Davies to be sidelined for approximately two to three weeks. As a result, the national team has decided it is best for the defender to remain in Munich and focus on regaining full fitness.

The Canada coach added that returning from long-term injuries can be challenging and emphasised the importance of managing Davies carefully to avoid further setbacks ahead of a crucial period for both club and country.
