With the Ligue 1 title race entering its final phase, Monaco have added a new twist to the tale as they beat league leaders PSG 3-1.
In a stunning turn of events, AS Monaco handed PSG their first home defeat of the Ligue 1 season, beating them 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.
The match began with plenty of attacking intent from both sides, and Monaco should have taken the lead early on when Denis Zakaria headed over the bar from a Caio Henrique delivery.
However, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi almost capitalized on the miss, only to be denied by Philipp Kohn’s vital block.
Monaco took the lead in the 27th minute, courtesy of a mistake from PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery. Balogun intercepted the ball and found Maghnes Akliouche, who scored his fifth Ligue 1 goal of the season. Despite PSG’s dominance in possession, they failed to create clear chances, leaving Luis Enrique to ponder at halftime.
Things took a turn for the worse for PSG after the break, as Aleksandr Golovin doubled Monaco’s lead 10 minutes into the second half. Golovin’s introduction proved inspired, and he nearly scored again just minutes later, only to be denied by Matvey Safonov’s excellent save.
PSG pulled one back with just under 20 minutes left, thanks to Bradley Barcola’s deflected strike. However, Monaco restored their two-goal advantage when Balogun scored a stunning goal from over 20 yards out.
Balogun’s goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of PSG, and Monaco came close to scoring a fourth late on, with Simon Adingra’s effort rattling off the bar.

The defeat leaves PSG four points clear at the top of Ligue 1, but RC Lens can close the gap to one point if they beat FC Metz on Sunday.
Monaco’s win moves them up to fifth position and boosts their hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The result is a significant blow to PSG’s title hopes and sets up an intriguing title race.
