Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hit back at criticism of his team’s ‘ugly’ tactics, after they moved closer to the Premier League title with a 1-0 win over Brighton.

Brighton’s manager Fabian Hurzeler had accused Arsenal of time-wasting and faking injuries, saying they “make their own rules”. Arteta responded with a sarcastic “what a surprise”, defending his players and their approach.

Bukayo Saka’s deflected strike secured the win, extending Arsenal’s lead to seven points over Manchester City, who drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.

Critics argue Arsenal’s style lacks the flair of past title winners, like Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’. Hurzeler questioned the game’s entertainment value, citing goalkeeper David Raya’s multiple injuries as an example.

Arteta emphasized his players’ hard work and deserved praise for grinding out victories. “I love my players, and I love the way we compete,” he said, adding that opponents want to take away their position.

The Gunners face a busy schedule, with the Champions League, League Cup, and FA Cup still in play. Arteta’s focus remains on winning trophies, not earning style points.

When asked if he cared about other managers’ opinions, Arteta replied: “No comment.” His team will continue to push for the quadruple, regardless of criticism.
