Incident comes just days after the Brazilian was also booed and had projectiles thrown at him by supporters in Benfica

In their side’s league game against Real Madrid on Saturday, Osasuna fans are alleged to have been chanting “Vinicius, muerete”, which translates as “Vinicius, die”.

La Liga has announced it is currently reviewing footage of the chants and will make a decision after investigations.

The home fans also whistled the Brazilian and sang songs of “Vinicius, balon de playa”, which means “Vinicius, beach ball”, a chant that started after he failed to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or and Madrid angrily boycotted the event.

Osasuna edged Madrid in a narrow game where the home side were fractionally better. Ante Budimir opened the scoring in the first half but Vinicius in fact hit back in the second period, striking at close range after Federico Valverde’s cross.

However, Osasuna had the final word when Raul Garcia, who came on for Budimir and scored in stoppage time.

Vinicius has consistently faced abuse from crowds throughout his playing career, insulted in some fashion in no less than 10 stadiums across Spain. This includes Osasuna, where in 2023 he was racially abused by a fan, although the culprit ultimately proved impossible to identify.

The incident at Osasuna comes just days after the Brazilian was also booed and had projectiles thrown at him by supporters in Benfica, after he had riled them up with rude gestures following an excellent goal that ended up being the winner.

However, events in Portugal took an even uglier turn after Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni allegedly directed a racist insult at Vinicius. Football’s anti-racism protocol was consequently activated and the game delayed by up to 10 minutes.

Uefa is still investigating the incidents of that night.
