Brazilian “grateful” for the Portuguese coach’s impact at the club
Matheus Cunha has torn into critics of former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, saying the Portuguese’s impact at the club was “quite the opposite” of negative.
Amorim was heavily criticised for his rigid adherence to a 3-4-3 formation and mocked for poor results. United notably won three games in a row only once under the Portuguese. There was equally heavy criticism for the lack of minutes he gave to home-grown talent Kobbie Mainoo.
But Cunha rejected claims that Amorim was a failure at the club, crediting him for the club’s current performances. United have won four of their five games under interim coach Michael Carrick, including decisive wins against the top two, Arsenal and Manchester City.
“I’m very grateful for everything Ruben did,” Cunha told DAZN. “Despite everything it’s very easy, when things change, to look back at how things were previously as just negative. But it’s quite the opposite.

“He was an incredible person. Many new players came because of him, so a big part of the good moment we’re experiencing is down to him too.”
