Interim coach says concern for now is meeting target of qualifying for the Champions League

Michael Carrick says Manchester United players are “fully focused” despite the lack of clarity over who will become the club’s next permanent head coach.

The former United midfielder was appointed as interim head coach when Ruben Amorim was dismissed in January. He has since presided over three out of three wins and lifted the mood around the club, but United have postponed a decision over a permanent appointment until the end of the season.

Carrick says the concern for now is to meet the target of qualifying for the Champions League.

“The players have been spot on and fully focused,” Carrick said ahead of United’s Saturday game against Tottenham. “We’re all aware of the bigger situation and what might happen.

“As a player, you focus on what’s ahead of you, trying to achieve what you can. I’ve got no concerns. The lads have been better than you can imagine.

“We’re focused on being better, improving and getting to where we want to be. Small steps, but it’s a big end to the season.”
