Bayer Leverkusen eased into the DFB-Pokal semi-finals with a dominant 3-0 win over St. Pauli at the BayArena.
Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the DFB-Pokal last four with a composed 3-0 victory over St. Pauli at the BayArena, extending the visitors’ difficult run to seven matches without a win in all competitions.
Despite Leverkusen’s strong start overall, the first real chance of the match fell to St. Pauli. Martijn Kaars reacted quickest to a loose ball in the penalty area following a corner, but his effort was hacked off the line by Robert Andrich, who produced a crucial clearance to keep the scores level.
The hosts soon grew into the game and were almost gifted an opener when Ben Voll’s risky short goal-kick was intercepted by Malik Tillman. The American slipped the ball through to Patrik Schick, but the striker hesitated for a split second, allowing Karol Mets to recover and block heroically on the goal line.

St. Pauli continued to show flashes of intent, with Fujita combining neatly with Kaars inside the box before dragging his shot wide. However, their positive spell was undone just after the half-hour mark by a moment of quality from Leverkusen.
With appeals for a penalty waved away after Schick went down, Martin Terrier kept play alive and struck a superb looping effort from the edge of the area. The French forward’s shot nestled into the bottom corner, giving Leverkusen a deserved lead heading into the break, despite Kaars testing the defence again late in the half.
The second period was more measured, but Leverkusen doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark. Aleix García delivered a teasing ball to the back post, where Schick guided a delicate finish across goal and into the far corner for his first goal of the calendar year.
Jonas Hofmann rattled the post with a long-range effort late on before making sure of the result in stoppage time, calmly finishing a counter-attack after being picked out by Alejandro Grimaldo. St. Pauli struggled to mount a response and exited the competition quietly, while Leverkusen march confidently into the semi-finals.
