Inter Fans Handed Three-Away-Game Ban After Firework Incident

Inter supporters have been banned from attending three Serie A away matches after a firework injured Cremonese goalkeeper Emil Audero.

Inter supporters will be barred from attending the club’s next three away matches following a serious incident involving a firework thrown from the away end during Sunday’s Serie A game against Cremonese

The decision was officially confirmed on Tuesday by Italy’s Interior Minister.

The ban means Inter fans will be absent from the club’s upcoming trips to Sassuolo, Lecce, and Fiorentina. The Nerazzurri fans will not be allowed to purchase tickets for the away sections at Reggio Emilia, Lecce, or Florence. In addition, residents of Lombardy are prohibited from buying tickets for those fixtures, regardless of seating area.

Regarding the attack on Audero and his injury, Italian media have since reported that the individual responsible for throwing the firework has been identified. According to reports, the fan also suffered serious injuries, losing three fingers while attempting to throw a second flare shortly after the first incident.

The ban will remain in place until March 23. Inter will still have supporters presence for the March 8 derby against AC Milan at San Siro, as the fixture does not involve travel outside the city of Milan.

Apart from government-imposed measures, Inter may face further sporting sanctions as the FIGC’s sporting judges are expected to roll out their verdict on the matter soon. 

For Inter, playing without their fans will be could impact the atmosphere as they continue to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table and Inter fans will be hoping that by the time they return to the stands, their team is still top of the Serie A.
