Palace will only allow 28-year-old to leave if their valuation is met and they are able to sign a replacement
Nottingham Forest have made an offer to Crystal Palace to sign striker Jean-Philippe Mateta for £35m.
It emerged last week that the player wants to leave Palace, with teammates Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi having already departed and manager Oliver Glasner leaving at the end of the season.
Personal terms between Mateta and Forest are not expected to be an issue.
However, Palace will only allow the 28-year-old to leave if their valuation of him is met and they are able to sign a replacement. The south London club are thought to value Mateta at around £40m and are targeting Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen as a replacement this January.
Manager Oliver Glasner said last weekend that it was “pretty clear” Mateta “will stay if we don’t have the right replacement who can play immediately”.
Mateta has started all of Palace’s 23 Premier League games this season but has struggled for form. He has eight goals in the league but has only scored two in his last 11.
Despite already having strikers Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi, both of whom scored at the weekend against Brentford, Forest are looking for more options up front as they seek to avoid relegation this season.
Their other striker Chris Wood has struggled with injuries, and Arnaud Kalimuendo, who was signed in the summer for £26m, has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.
