Bayer Leverkusen’s record is still intact as Augsburg handed Bayern Munich their first Bundesliga loss of the season.
Augsburg pulled off a stunning 2-1 comeback win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, handing the Bavarians their first league defeat of the season.
Bayern dominated possession early on, with Luis Diaz, Lennart Karl, and Michael Olise testing the Augsburg defense. However, Augsburg’s 5-4-1 formation held strong, and they took the lead in the 23rd minute through Hiroki Ito’s header from an Olise corner.
As the game wore on, Augsburg continued to threaten, and they had chances to equalize before halftime. After the break, Bayern struggled to create clear chances, and Augsburg capitalized. Chaves scored the equalizer in the 75th minute, and Massengo sealed the win with a late goal.
Augsburg’s victory marks their first win in Munich since 2015 and moves them six points clear of the relegation zone. Bayern, meanwhile, remains 11 points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund.
After the game, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expressed his disappointment after the match. “We were stable in the first half but not very creative,” he said. “Overall, I’m more disappointed by the result than the performance.”
