Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has come to the defense of his star defender Kim Min-Jae, who was sent off in the 63rd minute of their 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
Kompany refused to criticize Kim, instead praising his experience and contributions to the team.

“He’s experienced. He won the Scudetto in Italy and the Bundesliga, he’s an international player,” Kompany said in his post-match press conference. “The red card is part of football.”
Kompany emphasized that Kim’s suspension for the next game is manageable, saying “luckily it’s not a decisive game”. He also highlighted Kim’s strong performance in the first half, stating that he and defender Tah “helped us a lot in this game to not have any ‘crazy’ moments.”
As a former defender himself, Kompany understands the pressures of the position and knows that red cards are an inherent part of the game. “As a defender myself, I know that it [red card] can happen,” he said.
Kompany is confident that Kim will bounce back from this setback, saying “I know Min-Jae, this won’t affect him. He’s not a 19-year-old youngster.”
Kim Min-Jae, 29, will miss Bayern’s next Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven on January 28 due to his suspension.
