Mateta has requested a January exit from Crystal Palace, but the club remain firm on a €40m asking price amid Juventus and Aston Villa interest.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has formally requested a transfer away from Crystal Palace during the January window, with Juventus and Aston Villa both tracking the French striker’s situation. Despite the player’s stance, Palace are unwilling to lower their valuation.

Multiple reports indicate that Mateta has informed the Premier League club of his desire to leave this month, hoping to secure a new challenge elsewhere. The 28-year-old has been a consistent presence in Palace’s attack and is now pushing for a move.

Juventus have been the most active suitors so far, holding talks with Palace over the past few weeks. However, the Bianconeri’s strongest proposal fell short of expectations, consisting of an initial loan with a performance-related obligation to buy, totalling around €33m.

According to reports, Mateta’s transfer request has not altered Palace’s position. The London club continue to demand €40m to sanction a January departure, with the striker still under contract until June 2027.

Aston Villa have now moved into a strong position in the race, particularly as Juventus begin to explore alternative options in attack. The Serie A giants have opened parallel talks for Youssef En-Nesyri, with Fenerbahce open to discussing a loan-based deal.

Reports in England claim that Villa are firmly interested in Mateta, viewing him as a potential reinforcement for their forward line. Unai Emery’s side are assessing the market following Donyell Malen’s recent move to Roma.

In addition to Mateta, Villa are also monitoring Tammy Abraham as they weigh up their attacking options.
