Austrian coach has been linked to the top job at Old Trafford, which becomes available in the summer

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that he will leave the club in the summer, after being charge for two years and a half.

The Austrian guided Palace to their first major silverware when his side defeated Manchester City at Wembley last spring to claim the FA Cup, but for months he has delayed signing a new contract. He will depart when his current deals expires at the end of the season.

“A decision has already been taken, months ago,” Glasner revealed. “I had a meeting with Steve [Parish, club chairman] in October, the international break.

“We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract. We agreed at the time it was the best to keep it between us. It’s the best that we could do that and keep it confidential for three months.

I told Steve I’m looking for a new challenge. It’s my feeling after everything. I told him in October it’s nothing to do with the transfer window. I hate if something is written that is not true it’s tough for me to respond. We have a great relationship and always talking what’s best for Palace.”

Glasner is rated as one of the best managers in the Premier League, and as a result he has naturally been linked to some of the biggest jobs in the game, notably the position of Manchester United head coach, which will be available in the summer.

“I haven’t spoken to any other club,” Glasner said. “I told the players, promised them, I will give my best to get the points record. We will do everything to bring another trophy back to Selhurst Park. We will do our best. For the players alone it’s tough but together it’s possible. I will do everything to bring another trophy to Selhurst and play the best Premier League season ever.”

Palace’s manager also suggested that centre-back Marc Guehi will join Manchester City this window. The north-west club have made contact with the player’s representatives, hoping to buy him now for a relatively small fee before his contract expires in the summer and other major clubs swoop in.

Glasner said: “I can’t confirm the club because it is not done but is in the final stages and the result is Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.”
