Manager says he’s unsure of what future holds for striker
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick doesn’t know whether Robert Lewandowski will be offered a contract extension at the club.
Lewandowski’s current contract runs out in the summer and his future has been the subject of much controversy. The 37-year-old’s value in the side has dropped this season: he has made just seven starts in the league so far, with Ferran Torres having made twice as more.
He was also an unused substitute in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final game against Athletic Club on Wednesday, which Barcelona won 5-0, with Torres opening the scoring. Barcelona have been linked with a number of striker options to replace the Poland international in the summer.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Flick said concerning Lewandowski’s future. “I’m very honest with him, too.
“I’m very happy to have him. He’s playing at a good level, training well, and scoring goals. We have two players in that position [No 9].
“I’m not going to say he’s leaving the team. Why? We’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”
