Premier League club are assessing interim options to take charge until the summer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in returning to Manchester United again as a caretaker manager, even if it is just until the end of the season.
The ex-United boss was sacked in 2021 after nearly three years at the helm. He was appointed head coach of Besiktas in January 2025 but lasted only eight months after he was sacked by the Turkish Super Lig club in August.
United sacked head coach Ruben Amorim on Monday following a falling out with club executives. Assistant coach Darren Fletcher is set to take charge of the team for Wednesday’s trip to Burnley, but are aiming to appoint an interim coach who will be at the helm until the end of the season, when they will appoint a new permanent head coach. United are reportedly aware of Solskjaer’s interest in returning to Old Trafford.
The club will start their internal process of selecting an interim coach on Tuesday. Other coaches being linked to the job include Enzo Maresca, available after being sacked by Chelsea in the new year, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, and former England coach Gareth Southgate.
Newcastle’s Eddie Howe has dismissed links to the United job.
