Sunderland fought back to draw 1-1 away at Tottenham, extending their unbeaten run and increasing pressure on Spurs boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham Hotspur were left frustrated as Sunderland came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw in north London, a result that did little to ease the pressure on head coach Thomas Frank despite Spurs extending their unbeaten head-to-head run against the Black Cats to 15 matches.

The hosts started brightly, with Mathys Tel testing Sunderland’s defence inside the opening minute. Tottenham dominated early possession and created half-chances through Pedro Porro and Richarlison, but the visitors remained compact and difficult to break down.

Spurs were dealt an early setback when Mohammed Kudus was forced off injured after just 19 minutes, disrupting their attacking rhythm. Even so, the home side continued to push forward and eventually made the breakthrough from a set-piece.

The opening goal arrived on the half-hour mark when Cristian Romero brought down a corner and fed Micky van de Ven, whose effort was diverted home by Ben Davies. It was the defender’s first Premier League goal since December 2023 and came on his first league start of the season.

Sunderland responded with renewed energy after the interval, forcing Guglielmo Vicario into action early on as he denied Eliezer Mayenda’s header. Moments later, a loose pass from Romero sparked another chance, with Davies required to deflect Brian Brobbey’s strike behind for a corner.

The Black Cats continued to grow in confidence, with Simon Adingra firing narrowly wide as Tottenham began to show signs of anxiety. At the other end, Randal Kolo Muani forced a sharp save from a tight angle as the game opened up.

Sunderland’s persistence finally paid off nine minutes from time when Brobbey combined neatly with Enzo Le Fee, before the Frenchman lashed a powerful finish past Vicario. Late chances and heated exchanges followed, but the visitors held firm to extend their unbeaten run to five matches, leaving Spurs’ third straight game without defeat feeling more like a missed opportunity.
