Brennan Johnson has completed a £35 million transfer from Tottenham to Crystal Palace, becoming the club’s record signing on a long-term deal at Selhurst Park.
Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson has completed a move to Crystal Palace, joining the South London club for a reported fee of £35 million and becoming their record signing.
The 24-year-old Wales international has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park, bringing an end to his spell at Spurs after falling out of favour under head coach Thomas Frank.
Despite finishing last season as Tottenham’s top scorer, Johnson struggled for regular minutes following Frank’s arrival and has largely played a supporting role behind Mohammed Kudus in the pecking order.
Johnson is expected to make his Crystal Palace debut on Sunday when the Eagles face Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Premier League.
“I’m really excited and I’m really happy,” Johnson said after completing the move. “Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I’ve always admired. It’s a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on.”
Palace manager Oliver Glasner believes Johnson’s arrival will significantly strengthen his attacking options, praising the forward’s pace and eye for goal as key attributes.
The transfer comes as a major boost for Glasner, whose side have endured a six-match winless run in all competitions, with Johnson hoping to replicate the form that saw him score 18 goals last season, including the Europa League final winner that ended Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a trophy.
