Interest also coming from MLS as player carefully considers final years of career

Robert Lewandowski may not be at Barcelona next season as his representatives prepare to hold talks with the Saudi Pro League about a possible summer transfer.

Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski’s agent is scheduled to meet Saudi officials before the new year. The discussions are understood to follow an offer that has previously been put to the Polish striker, though the identities of the clubs involved have not been disclosed.

Lewandowski’s Barcelona contract runs until the end of the season and there have been questions over he and the club can come to an agreement over a renewal.

The Poland international has scored eight goals in 18 appearances in all competitions this term, but his influence in Hansi Flick’s side has waned, with Ferran Torres hugely impressing this season for La Blaugrana. The latter has scored 13 in 22.

With Lewandowski 37 and set to turn 38 by the start of next season, Barcelona are taking their time to decide whether to offer him an extension. The prospect of a major lucrative contract elsewhere near the end of his career appears to also be a huge consideration for the player.

Interest in Lewandowski is not limited to the Middle East. There have been reports that Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire held exploratory talks with Lewandowski’s camp about a possible move to the United States.

Fire want a marquee signing from Europe and have pursued global stars in recent years without success. The club are believed to be willing to accommodate Lewandowski’s salary demands, although the Saudi proposal is thought to be the more lucrative package.

Lewandowski remains Poland’s record goalscorer, with 88 goals in 163 international appearances, and is still involved with the national team as they chase qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America. Poland face Albania in a play-off semi-final in March.
