27-year-old says the key to his full recovery is finding the right balance in his training regimen
Dani Olmo says it feels “unpleasant” to have his name associated with so many injuries, as the Barcelona midfielder continues to manage recurring fitness issues that have disrupted his season.
Olmo has missed several spells this season with muscle issues. Barcelona’s medical and performance staff have since drawn up a customised workload to reduce the risk of further setbacks.
The midfielder returned to Barcelona’s starting XI against Celta Vigo last week and is currently away with Spain for World Cup qualifiers against Turkey and Georgia.
“It’s not pleasant to have your name associated with so many injuries,” the Spaniard said. “Ultimately, I’m following a training method to prevent these situations.
“I believe, one hundred percent, that it’s working well for me. In the end, it’s football, and you can’t control everything.”
The midfielder will need to stay fit if he is to battle with Fermin Lopez for the attacking midfield role that the latter has virtually made his own in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Olmo said the current challenge is identifying how much he can handle without triggering another setback.
The 27-year-old said: “I want to train more on the field and in the gym so I can prevent these injuries. It’s about finding a balance of what’s working.”
