Jürgen Klopp says he has no plans to return to coaching, but leaves a small back door open, citing his current role with Red Bull and his age.

Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has confirmed that he has no plans to return to coaching anytime soon. 

Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023/24 season and took on a new role with Red Bull as the head of global soccer. In a recent interview with The Athletic, Klopp said he has realized that he doesn’t want to work as a coach anymore.

However, Klopp didn’t completely rule out the possibility of returning to coaching in the future. “That’s what I think,” he said when asked if he was absolutely sure. “But you don’t know. I’m 58. If I started again at 65, everybody will say, ‘You said you’ll never do it again.'” 

Klopp’s new role with Red Bull has not been without controversy, with some critics questioning the company’s involvement in football. Klopp acknowledged the criticism, particularly in Germany, but said he is not bothered by it. “I knew it. I’m German. I know what people in Germany think about the involvement of Red Bull in football,” he said.

Klopp emphasized that he does what he wants as long as he doesn’t hurt anyone. “I don’t expect everybody to like what I do,” he said. “I have to do it for the right reasons – for my right reasons.”

The former Liverpool manager also noted that his decision to step down from coaching was not taken lightly. Klopp said he has thought a lot about his future and has come to the realization that he doesn’t miss coaching. “I don’t miss anything,” he said, emphasizing that he is happy with his current role.

As Klopp settles into his new role, it’s clear that he is focused on his work with Red Bull. While he hasn’t completely ruled out a return to coaching, it’s unlikely that he’ll be back on the touchline anytime soon.
